Well, it seems we have been absent from the dog log lately ... but we have a really good excuse for it. Big news around these parts - BIG NEWS!!

Mommy and daddy got married! Yeah! We are so excited. That means that daddy can move in now and we can finally be a big happy family. We've been waiting and waiting for the big day to come and it has finally arrived. We may be a bit busy for awhile trying to clear out space and consolidate the households so don't fret if we don't appear online for a bit. We are quite busy!

Have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend. We'll be drugged up with doggy valium so we're not freaking out at the sound of the fireworks, but I'm sure the rest of city will appreciate them.

Sailor is the biggest drama king on the planet. What a wimp he is. Last night mommy let us outside to do our jobs before bedtime and we stumbled upon this dead worm laying on the sidewalk. It was completely covered in little ants that were basically devouring the thing. Sailor, the big clumsy dope that he is, stepped right on top of them. When we got back in the house he started freaking out about 5 minutes later. He was panting heavily, pacing the house, and shaking and biting his leg violently. Mommy was really worried. She thought maybe he was having an "episode" from his liver shunt until she examined him a little bit further ...

So she takes a good look at the leg he was having issues with and there, stuck to the bottom of his paw, was a little red ant that was biting him quite fiercely. Mommy pulled off the nasty ant and washed his foot off. He was still panting heavily and pacing around. So, she hopped in the shower with him to wash him down and give him a cold water rinse to cool him off and calm him down.

After all this, he was still behaving like a lunatic so mommy calls the emergency vet just to make sure nothing major is going on. They said a little ant bite won't hurt him - he is just acting overly dramatic. DUH! Big baby. So mommy cuddles and coohs over him all night and finally he falls asleep. This morning he is fine as can be - as if it never happened. He would have been a good dog for Hollywood ...

HOT HOT HOT! That's what it is around here. This past weekend hit 97 degrees - which is unheard of for May in Minnesota. Mommy doesn't have any air conditioning in the house yet so it was quite miserable. We went down to the lake to cool off. Sailor just loves to fetch his squeaky pacifier out of the water. The water was a wee bit chilly yet, but it sure felt good from the heat and humidity.

Grandma and Grandpa D came down with their two tyrants. Man those dogs bark like crazy. Anytime something came by the yard one would start, then the other chimed in, and of course we would need to follow suit. It was like animal farm at our house! They can be kinda fun but boy do they have energy. Never a dull moment. They are also little escape artists. Mommy came back from breakfast one day and the little rascals had busted out of their house and were waiting for them at the door. And she calls us the troublemakers ... whatever!

It's been a rather slow week. Not too much exciting going on. They put the new sidewalk pieces in so we can actually walk down our street again. We received a notice on the door that the water main work will begin in the next couple weeks. They have to shut off our water line and then connect these temporary fittings to the outside faucet. Then they run all the water through above-ground PVC pipes until they get the new mains in and hooked up. We wonder what would happen if some thug came by and hacked a hole in one of those temporary water lines. We bet it would be like a geiser!

It should be a fun weekend. Mommy's birthday is tomorrow so she took the whole day off and Friday too. Plus grandma and grandpa D are coming down to visit and stay with us so there will be lots of company and people to give us food and play fetch with. The best part is the weather is supposed to stay in the 80s. Bring on the summer!

The massive crater in the front yard has finally been filled. They used this big contraption to pound the dirt down as they were filling it in - we suppose it was to prevent it from settling further. Provided it doesn't rain again they should be back to pour the new concrete this week. 2 streets down they had the whole thing dug up to put in the new sewer lines. Bet they'll be on our street pretty soon.

Mommy finally mowed the grass last night. It was taller than us! The neighbors had someone come visit who brought their dog. Sailor was frantically racing up and down the entire length of the fence jumping and barking to scare off this dog who didn't even give us a second glance. This went on for at least 10 minutes straight. He was so wiped out that he zonked out the minute his head hit the pillow. Mommy was pretty happy that he got himself some extra excercise as she thinks we got a little fat over the winter and need to slim down. I take offense to that.

Oh boy what a mess we have here. They managed to move the gas meter outside yesterday so that part is done. But, they didn't get the crater filled in yet. Now it has been raining like crazy and the big piles of dirt have turned into big piles of muddy muck. And the crater in the yard is filling up with water. Mommy keeps us on an extremely tight leash so we don't come back into the house covered in mud.

The birds are sure enjoying the rain though. We have millions of big fat juicy nightcrawler worms in our yard and they always come to the surface when it rains. Mommy thinks its gross because the whole yard is a sea of worms. But for the birds it's a big ol all you can eat smorgasboard! This morning the most beautiful red male Cardinal was wrangling with an extra fat worm. He was tugging with all his might and finally got that bad boy out of the ground. As soon as he was done chomping him down, back out in the yard he went for more hunting. It is entertainment on an otherwise dreary day.

Slowly but surely they are making progress. The big hole next to the house has been filled in and they are planning on hooking up the new gas meter tomorrow morning ... which means mommy will be working from home again - yippee! We suppose that means they will finally fill in the crater in the front yard. This thing is 7 feet deep and 5 feet wide! We have yellow tape and blinking barricades all over the place. Makes it a bit tricky to go for a walk or play in the front yard. Too bad daddy ran off with the camera or we'd post some pics.

No rest for the weary! The road crew is back on our street and they are digging up sidewalks today. Guess they need to put the new gas lines in first. Then come the new sewer lines. This is going to be a long tough summer. It is exhausting having the life scared right out of you by those big nasty noises and then having to expend your entire body barking ferociously in defense. The whole house shakes when they bang on the pavement. We sort of have an idea of what earthquakes must be like now ...

What a lame day! It has been raining non-stop since Friday morning. Talk about going stir crazy. This weather is supposed to continue through Monday. It's a good thing mommy did take Thursday afternoon off. We went for a walk, played fetch, ate grass and just hung out. Bad thing about eating the grass though ... is that it causes stomach issues around 4am. Mom wasn't too pleased with us after that ...

The road crew guys were back on our street this morning. They were pounding the crap out of the sidewalks. The noise was so loud it surely could have awaken the dead. Mommy gave up trying to sleep through it so we got up a little early today. There are big gaping holes in the sidewalk. They've got barricades all over the place. Almost looks like a war zone around here, but it didn't keep people from walking their dogs on this lovely spring day. We got plenty of barking and charging the fence time in tonight. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. Mommy hinted she may take the afternoon off. That means playtime!!
